Amani School | A Beacon Of Education

My name is Gaudensia Tigaruza. I am 49 years old. My daughter is Anna Mkama, a second grader at Amani Pre & Primary School here on Kome Island. Due to poverty, abandonment, and other unfortunate circumstances, many children in our society do not have access to basic education. Our village had long been deprived of a school. Children had to travel a great distance to attend schools in neighbouring villages, so many of them either didn’t attend at all or eventually dropped out.

Since Twelve21 constructed Amani School in our village, our children have been able to attend school with ease. Children no longer have to travel long distances, increasing the attendance rate and alleviating parents’ concerns for their children’s safety. The school brings a sense of hope to the community and shines a beacon of education for our children.

Amani School positively impacts our entire community by bringing employment opportunities to the village. The construction of school buildings provides employment for many community members. Twelve21 also hires teachers and support staff locally,

Since day one, my child has really improved academically, physically, and behaviourally. As a parent, I feel immense joy to see my child develop and grow in all aspects of life.

Providing nutritious meals to our kids can be a challenge for many parents, especially when finances are tight, so we are fortunate that our children get good meals at school. Children who receive regular, healthy meals are less likely to experience behavioural issues such as aggression, anxiety, and depression. The school meals positively impact our children’s mental health and overall well-being.

Without Amani School, many children would not have access to education. Education is especially important for abandoned or orphaned children who do not have anyone to provide for them. These children, who may have ended up as street children, now have hope for their future because of Amani School.

Teachers play an important role in a society as they are responsible for shaping the minds of the next generation. They are not only knowledgeable individuals but also kind and friendly towards children and the community. Their warm and caring attitudes make us feel at ease knowing that our children are in safe hands.

One of the most admirable traits of the teachers at Amani School is their fear of God. They hold themselves accountable for their actions and strive to do what is right before God. Their sense of morality is reflected in the way they interact with their students and the community.

We see that teachers are not just educators, but also mentors and role models. They inspire and motivate their students to achieve their full potential and become successful individuals in their own right. Their dedication and passion for teaching is truly inspiring, and they deserve all the appreciation and recognition for their hard work and commitment.
