What does a Twelve21 Global Mission Trip Look Like?

WHY DO WE DO MISSION TRIPS TO AFRICA?

One part of the Twelve21 Global ministry is mobilizing people to go on mission trips to the areas where we have schools, new church plants, and mobile health clinics! A mission trip to Africa can be scary if it is your first time, but we are here to assure you that you will be well prepared and equipped to help meet the needs of the Tanzanian peoples.

Our trips are centered around bringing the gospel to spiritually dark communities by intentionally crossing cultural barriers to share the hope found in Jesus. The goal of the trips is to equip and empower the local Tanzanians to reach their own communities after we leave. This goal is met by partnering with both individuals and church groups in the various villages we go. We plan and organize all the details for you, including airline tickets, accommodations, meals, etc. We also provide culturally relevant training to prepare you for service prior to going.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON A MISSION TRIP TO AFRICA?

Travel

If you are interested in going on a mission trip to Africa, just know it will be a lot of travel! We arrive in Tanzania from the U.S. after approximately three flights and thirty hours of travel. We greatly appreciate hotel beds our first night in-country! A bus ride the next day takes us to our final ministry destination. Travel days feel long, but they provide great opportunities to rest, laugh, and to get to know your teammates really well.

Village Days

If you are part of a evangelism team, you will minister in a village that has a recent church plant to accelerate and support the church’s growth. Each team member, partnered with his/her own translator, spends three to five mornings sharing the gospel hut to hut. After lunch, the team leads discipleship groups to help equipe the new believers in the villages. We teach you how to do this prior to going on trip! If you go on a medical trip with us, you would be working alongside local Tanzanian medical professionals to treat as many patients as possible while also sharing the gospel!

Sundays

On Sundays, we attend the church where we ministered during the week. Team members experience authentic Tanzanian worship. Some participate in the service by giving testimonies and preaching God’s Word. It is a great opportunity to experience the way that Tanzanians do church. You could attend a church that meets under the local tree in their village or in a fully manufactured building. Either way, it is a wonderful opportunity to see God’s work manifesting in a community.

Safari Days

We end our trips with a safari through the Serengeti National Park or Ngorongoro Crater. Team members enjoy time together relaxing and viewing the beauty of God’s creation. Before heading home, we visit a local market where we can purchase gifts and trinkets to bring home!

Debrief

We set aside time at the end of our trip to process our experiences and prepare for returning back to our normal lives in North America! We continue partnering with and encouraging you as we return to serving the Lord in our own communities.
