My name is Masumbuko Bunzuri. I am the Nyonga Village Chairman on Kome Island. Because our island community has limited access to health and education services, we experience challenges that impact our children’s well-being and our community’s development.
Limited access to medical professionals, clinics, and hospitals causes delays in the diagnosis and treatment of common childhood illnesses. Our children are at high risk for health problems because of a lack of preventive care measures such as vaccinations.
Many of our children do not have access to quality education or must travel long distances to attend school. Uneducated children face limited job prospects and difficulty in breaking the cycle of poverty. They may be more susceptible to exploitation or to the instability of the informal labor market.
Uneducated children in our village struggle to fully participate in civic life, understand their rights and responsibilities, and contribute to our community’s development and progress. They face difficulties in making informed decisions and advocating for themselves.
Addressing our children’s health and education needs should be our priority. Efforts should focus on raising awareness within the community about the importance of health and education. Encouraging healthy habits and parental involvement in education can contribute to children’s long-term success and well-being. We must also collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and community members. We are inviting all people with a helping heart from God to join us in bringing change to our community.
Twelve21 Global’s Amani School has proved to be one of these partners, providing education, meals, and healthcare for students. By giving all children access to quality education, regardless of their socio-economic backgrounds, Twelve21 Global has eliminated families’ financial burden while increasing enrollment rates. School meals ensure that our children are well-nourished and better able to focus on their studies.
I believe Twelve21 Global’s initiative is a game-changer for our community. The provision of education, meals, and healthcare is transforming our children’s lives. By bridging gaps in access to healthcare and education, Amani School empowers our community and paves the way for a brighter future. I am grateful for the support and resources provided by Twelve21 Global, and I look forward to continuing this partnership for the betterment of our village.
